Asian Lion Limited (Asian Lion), formed in July 2006, is a private equity fund that will provide capital for development projects, feasibility studies and advanced exploration in junior mining companies active in Asia. Asian Lion is modelled on the successful African Lion Funds, in which Lion Selection has also invested. The fund is managed by Lion Manager Pty Limited (the Manager), which is also the manager of Lion Selection and the African Lion funds and is managed from Lion Selection’s Melbourne office.
The initial size of the Asian Lion fund was US$21.6 million. Following a second closing in October 2007 the fund was increased to US$34.2 million. Lion’s commitment totals US$11 million.
Asian Lion’s other shareholders include the IFC (the World Bank’s investment arm), PROPARCO (French Government), ABN AMRO, Altitude Investment Company, Atlas Financial International and the Lion Manager.
